Laura Eklund

United States abstract artist Laura Eklund is from Olive Hill, Ky. Her paintings have received first place awards, special recognition, solo exhibitions. Laura is a 2005 recipient of a KFW grant, and her paintings are currently gaining fast reputation. She isone of those painters who still likes to get dirty and smudge the paint. Her artwork is very abstract, many times non-objective. She does get very involved in the act of painting itself, but does not lose sight of the elements that work to make the painting complete and successful. Her artwork depends upon color, shape, balance, harmony, and line for its imagery versus objects drawn from a discernable reality. Her work is rooted in the confligrations of abstract expressionism. This may also mean that it is born out the immense story of Western Art. While she is attracted to the forms and techniques of the Abstract Expressionists, she is pulled, beyond her own will or consciousness, into realms that are visionary and expanding into her own artistic frontier. She is an artist and she paints everyday to build her momentum, and is one of those serious artists who puts their work at the center of their life.
