Fly-Fish the Lake Trout Spawn!

Join us on the remote mainland Arctic tundra during the autumn of early September during the prime lake trout spawning period...

#33 lb lake trout caught on upper Thelon River!

#40 lb laker caught on Whitefish Lake of the upper Thelon River last autumn!

AMERICAN PLAN:  This very special trophy fishing expedition is fully guided & catered from our camps on Whitefish Lake of the upper Thelon River, NWT; with excellent fresh-food meals served daily.  Included are qualified lake fishing and fly-fishing instructor / guides,  heated Quonset sleeping accommodations, plus a central shower/wash room.

To begin this unique adventure, participants must make their way to Yellowknife - the capital city of the Canadian Northwest Territories - and then onward to the remote Chipewayan Dene' Aboriginal settlement of Lutsel K'e, located on the East Arm of Great Slave Lake - an area soon slated to become Canada's newest and largest National Park!

This region is steeped in aboriginal & early explorer history, and perhaps you will have the chance to meet and spend time with some of the native elders who once traveled this remote country by dogsled and canoe...

good morning!

We supply 16' & 18' boats with 50-60 HP Yamaha motors, and smaller backup motors on each; all mixed gas required per boat; a satellite telephone for each boat, first aid supplies; and highly professional Arctic experienced guides.   We keep partial on-site aircraft support at the camp during most of the week with us for emergency use, and for wildlife reconnaissance.

The new pontoon boat called the 'Boo Barge on its inaugural voyage in August 2003. Super stable platform for trolling & flycasting!

Camp aircraft Cessan 185 C-GYJY in 2003 - on site for most of the trips for emergency use. Air charters can be arranged for flighseeing and fishing nearby hotspots.

We are proud to offer in service our new high-powered pontoon boat - the 'Boo Barge'.  Flown in & built on-site in 2003, we motorized it with a 60 hp Yamaha.  It has proven to be a super-stable platform for fly-fishing while anchored or drifting over the trout spawning reefs; or for slow trolling in comfort!

#44 lb laker caught during trout spawn!

Reeling in the monster lakers caught in such shallow water can sometimes take over an hour!

#5.2 lb. Arctic grayling caught on upper Thelon River - almost the world's record!

And the fishing at this time of season is absolutely awesome!  During the shallow water fishing on the spawning reefs with fly-rod or ultra-light spin casting,  we regularly see as many as 40-80 trout per day per boat (two fishermen), with record days producing as many as 115!  Trout average from the 6 -15 lbs, with many caught weekly in the 20-40 lb range.  Arctic grayling on the upper Thelon River is truly world-class, with fly-rod or ultra-light producing 40-50 at a standing.  The grayling here average 2.5 - 4 lbs.!  On calm evenings, the BIG lake grayling will come in and surface feed right off the camp beach!

The trophy fishing during the spawn is at it's absolute best - the caribou are migrating, the musk-oxen herds are gathering, the autumn colors on the tundra are magnificent, & the northern lights are dancing-

Trophy lake trout & Arctic grayling fishing just doesn't get any better than this!
