LUTSEL K'E HISTORY: For centuries the Chipewayan Dene' including the Reliance Band & the Etthen Eldehi (The Caribou Eaters) lived, hunted & roamed the winter ice & summer waters of southern and eastern Great Slave Lake, Artillery Lake & Lockhart River to the Northeast; as well as far out onto the eastern barrenlands of the upper Snowdrift, Talston, Elk and Thelon watersheds.

Lutsel K'e, where the Snowdrift River & Stark Lake empties into Great Slave Lake, was historically a famous summer fishing spot for the Chipewayan Dene'. A Hudson Bay Company post was established here in 1925, and over the several decades native families came here from their distance outposts at first to to trade, and eventually to permanently settle near the trading post. As the years evolved, eventually a church, school, arena and a Community Centre were all established.
