"Reading this gives me goosebumps, remembering what it felt like... feeling it all over again."
~ Carver

On a sunny spring day early in 1992, a throng of friends gathered in a local café. Spirits were high as winter was coming to a close. Warmth and sunshine set the joyful mood.

Amongst the buzz of chatting and laughter, a man and a woman sat together for the first time. Having just been introduced moments earlier, conversation was anything but stilted as they instantly struck up a genuine, instant friendship. They began with usual introductions, and as their time together progressed they opened up more and more, speaking of things they'd never felt comfortable talking about with anyone else. Secret feelings were shared, private thoughts disclosed to one another. The feeling was amazing, this intense camaraderie.

With wonder and curiosity, awareness of the rest of the world fell away as they journeyed into an easy intimacy, becoming more enthralled with one another as the moments passed. How could two strangers know one another so well and be so at ease with one another? With every shared moment, each longed for more.

After what seemed like only a few minutes together, the couple finally surfaced from their intense and exhilarating conversation. Checking the time, both were shocked to find that hours had passed! While they'd been immersed so completely in one another, the crowded café had emptied.

Acknowledging the solid spark between them the two friends parted, agreeing to meet up again soon. Years later, they both admitted feeling the strongest urge to kiss in that moment. Instead, they said goodbye with a simple hug and ear-to-ear smiles. Sparks had flown, and the course of their lives were changed forever.

That was many years ago. It was the day my soul partner walked into my life.
